Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) challenges need to be addressed in effective public-private partnerships with a wide variety of stakeholders —in particular the private sector. What policy and governance risks and opportunities do partnerships with the private sector entail? How does it change the regulating role of the government? And in what sense do these partnerships for the SDGs change the nature of global governance?

In light of these questions the Clingendael Institute organises a roundtable on the SDGs and the private sector. This event will bring together a select group of key business actors, societal organisations, experts and government stakeholders who are all actively involved in “implementing” the SDGs. This meeting is part of a research project commissioned to the Clingendael Institute by the Netherlands Ministry of Foreign Affairs. We focus on policy and governance challenges in the context of relations between government and the private sector. We are interested in perspectives and dilemmas from both sides and we intend to share key research findings of this project after its completion.
