On 22 January 2014, the Think Tanks and Civil Societies Programme (TTCSP) at the University of Pennsylvania released its seventh annual 2013 Global Go-To Think Tanks Report.

This Index has become a very prominent standard for IR-related think tanks around the world and is widely cited by governments, donors, journals and policymakers as the foremost profile and performance of think tanks in every region of the world. It assembles the input of nearly 6.900 think tanks all over the world.

Clingendael is proud to have achieved the 24th position in the worldwide non- US ranking. Combined with a 15th place in the ranking of Western European top think tanks, a 42nd place in the ranking of top Defense and National Security think tanks, 31st in the ranking of Foreign Policy and International Affairs, and 19th in the list of think tanks with the best External Relations / Public Engagement Programme, this brings the Institute to a 31st position in the ranking of top think tanks worldwide. We congratulate the Brookings Institute on their unchallenged first position and compliment their staff with the constant high-quality level of their work.
