Clingendael's first mediation training
25 Jun 2013 - 12:57

On Thursday 20 June Clingendael organised its first training seminar on international mediation and consensus building. The training was a great success, leading to very positive reviews by participants. Input by the two trainers, mediation expert Mark Anstey and negotiation trainer Wilbur Perlot, was valued as excellent by all participants. The only real criticism was the length of the seminar, which was only one day.

Clingendael´s forays into mediation are not new. For years mediation has been trained as part of a larger negotiation seminar, since understanding negotiation processes is a necessary step to become an effective mediator. Clingendael is now developing a curriculum of stand alone mediation training seminars, the first one scheduled in December 2013. The lessons learned from the session on Thursday 20th will be used to further improve the upcoming seminars.

The Clingendael method for mediation training is an unique mix of personal feedback and understanding of the process of negotiations. The method is based on extensive research conducted by the members of the Clingendael Processes of International Negotiation (PIN) Programme, of which both Mark Anstey and Wilbur Perlot are members, and further shaped by hundreds of training sessions in more than one hundred countries across the world.
