Clingendael Academy director Ron Ton visited the African Union Commission (AUC) in Addis Ababa (Ethiopia) for consultations on African conflict resolution training programmes, in particular on the African Women Mediation Programmes. Both parties agreed to organise a new edition for the training of African Women mediators in October-November 2016 in The Hague. The selection of the trainings members will be in the hands of the AUC. Follow up will also be given to sustain the network of about 100 women mediators already been trained, for example in the format of an association.

Since the autumn of 2013, Clingendael Academy - in cooperation with South Africa and the AUC - cooperates in African Women Mediation Programmes. The purpose is to promote the role of African women in peace negotiations in Africa. The training programmes include skills training on mediation, negotiations and conference diplomacy and specific topics on for example transitional issues and constitutional building.

The AUC will also be involved in Clingendael's Academy other conflict resolution training programmes for sub regional African organisations. Reference has also been made to an inside mediator's programme and training to parties who request for additional training and preparatory support for conflict resolution negotiations in Africa.
