While the Russian minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr Lavrov, discussed the situation in Ukraine with his American and European counterparts, a small group of professionals listened to Dr. Max Bader at the Clingendael Institute. Dr. Bader was one of the experts with whom participants of the course on International Security discussed contemporary security issues around the world.

A Broad Public

The group of participants was an interesting mix of professionals, all having extensive experience in various fields. Some are employed by the Ministry of Defence, others are active for non-governmental organisations. There were government and police specialists, as well as participants working for big international companies. What they had in common was that they were all longing for more knowledge, more information and more background about security issues on a global level.

Case-studies and future scenarios

The Clingendael Academy closely follows security situations around the world. With years of experience and insight, an eight-day program was composed, consisting of relevant case-studies. Topics included the Ukrainian crisis, the Afghan elections, the mission to Mali and the violence in Sub Sahara Africa, among many others. These case-studies were backed by several lectures and sessions on theories, political analyses and presented with an eye on the future.

In September 2014, a similar course will be organised at the Clingendael Institute. This course will be in English, and is thus also open for professionals from international organisations. Visit the course page for more information and registration.
