Recent events in Brussels, Baghdad, Paris and Lahore have shown that the necessity for transnational cooperation in the field of security is more paramount than ever before. It is in this spirit that Clingendael is receiving a delegation of the military research institute Lemhannas RI (Jakarta) to strengthen its collaborative goals.

Cooperation since the nineties

Lemhannas RI, based in Jakarta, is a military research institute which serves as the main educational and advisory facility to the Indonesian government in the fields of security and defense. The Memorandum of Understanding between the Clingendael Insitute and Lemhannas RI, signed by Clingendael Academy Director mr. Ron Ton and Vice-Governor mr. Bagus Puruhito (see picture above) in the presence of his excellency mr. Ambassador H.E. I Gusti Agung Wesaka Puja, is a confirmation of the excellent relations the two institutes have maintained since the early nineties, when Clingendael received a Lemhannas delegation for the very first time for a three-week training on civil-military cooperation.

Security Training
Throughout this week, a total of four Lemhannas research teams will undergo training in conflict mediation and management and visit the Advisory Council on International Affairs. In addition, the teams will receive extensive counseling and advise from the editors, academic writers and researchers that the  Clingendael Institute houses on the topics of corruption, communal conflict, de-radicalization, and climate change.
