Supporting the development of Tunisia Diplomatic Institute for Training and Studies (Institut diplomatique pour la formation et les Etudes)

From the 8th till 12th June, the third and last in a series of three workshops was conducted in Tunis in the framework of Clingendael Academy’s project to support the development a new diplomatic academy in Tunisia. Implemented by Dr Marianne Ducasse-Rogier, this three-day training complemented the previous two workshops held by Mr Nils de Mooij and Mr Ron Ton in January and March 2015.

Aim

The main goal of this project, supported by the Dutch “Matra South” programme, was to develop the training capacities of the Diplomatic Institute for Training and Studies of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Tunisia, in order to allow Tunisian diplomats to become efficient and representative agents of Tunisia new diplomacy.

The last seminar also included an extensive discussion on the impact of Tunisian transition on diplomacy and diplomatic training programmes, as well as the importance of the rule of law for diplomats and international actors.

Tunisia Diplomatic Academy

The participants to the three workshops were highly educated and experienced trainers (most of them are former Ambassadors), as well as young and mid-career diplomats currently posted at the Tunisia Diplomatic Institute for Training and Studies. This interesting mix of people with different levels of expertise (and sometimes different visions of the world) allowed for passionate and extensive discussions during the three days of the training.

Hopefully, those exchanges, coupled with the capacity-building efforts of the Clingendael Academy team, will assist the participants in their challenging task of establishing a brand new Tunisia Diplomatic Academy in the coming months.

Capacity-building

Clingendael Academy offers development capacity in international relations training in many parts of the world. More information about our capacity-building efforts is available here.
