The Brexit date is fast approaching, but the British Parliament has so far failed to back the deal struck by Prime Minister May and the EU27. German and Dutch businesses will be adversely affected should a No Deal scenario unfold. In order to prepare for any eventuality, Dutch and German business leaders should share lessons and experiences. It also makes sense for them to explore together how Europe will change post-Brexit. This was the objective of our Business after Brexit event. Together with the German Embassy in the Netherlands, VNO-NCW and BDI Federation of German Industries we organised the conference ‘German and Dutch Business after Brexit: Risks & Opportunities’. H.E. Dirk Brengelmann, German Ambassador to the Netherlands and Monika Sie Dhian Ho, general director Clingendael Institute jointly kicked off. Followed by Dutch State Secretary for Economic Affairs and Climate, Mona Keijzer with thoughtful keynote remarks on Brexit preparations and contingency planning. Dieter Kempf, President of BDI and Hans de Boer, President of VNO-NCW shared their experience and addressed the possible outcomes of Brexit and what they mean for the future of Europe.

The closing panel discussion elaborated on the consequences for various sectors in Germany and the Netherlands. Rem Korteweg led a very rewarding discussion with insights provided by Ruth Berschens (Correspondent and Brussels bureau chief of Handelsblatt), Ulrich Nöthel (Risk Director Euler Hermes DACH region), Arnaud de Jong (CEO Airbus Defence and Space Netherlands B.V.) and Hans Klunder (Customs Program Director Brexit, Dutch Customs).

We were delighted to organise this event together with the German Embassy in the Netherlands, VNO-NCW and BDI. Spreading knowledge is the key to reduce the damaging effects of the Brexit. #BusinessafterBrexit The full photostream of this event can be viewed here.
