With presentations and lively discussions on topics such as peace and security, law and justice, economic development and resource management, a group of 16 diplomats representing countries and regional organizations in Eastern Africa concluded their intensive 4-week training programme at the Clingendael Institute.

During the month of July, the diplomats took part in an intensive and interactive programme tailored towards developing the knowledge and skills necessary to enhance cooperation within the Eastern African region. The diplomats tackled various issues through skills trainings, lectures and working visits. International negotiations training was a key element in this course and allowed the participants to explore the possibilities for cooperation and collaboration in the context of the Sustainable Development Goals and the Africa Agenda 2063.

In addition, the diplomats embraced the opportunity to discuss different thematic topics with their counterparts during the working visit to the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs and relevant experts from the public and private sector during an interview carrousel and visit to Rijkszwaan.

Furthermore, the participants took the opportunity to discuss and analyse the specific national contexts of their colleagues and the prospects of enhancing future regional cooperation. The diplomats went home energized and full of ideas to promote regional cooperation.
