Els Duchateau-Polkerman is a Senior Research Fellow within the Security Unit of the Clingendael Institute. Her work revolves mainly around security, defence and logistics, with a special interest in the perception of security, innovation and strategy.
She has been seconded to Clingendael by the Ministry of Defence, were she worked as an Army officer for over 20 years. She worked as well in the operational field as in the Strategy & Plans department of the Army staff. She served as a platoon commander transport & logistics in the Kosovo Force (KFOR), as a plans officer in the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) in Afghanistan and as a Future Plans & Policy officer in the headquarter of the Train, Advise and Assist Command North (TAAC-N) of the Resolute Support Mission (RSM) in Afghanistan.
Els holds an Executive Master in Security and Defence (EMSD) from the Netherlands Defence Academy, an Executive Master Logistician (EMLog) from the Logistics Management Association (VLM) and an Executive Master Transport and Logistics (MTL) from TIAS Business School.
