In cooperation with Real Instituto Elcano, Clingendael welcomed senior  EU policy makers from Spain and the Netherlands for the 2nd Clingendael-Elcano Roundtable on 10 & 11 December 2019. The main theme of this strategic Spanish-Dutch roundtable was Spain, the Netherlands and the EU’s new political cycle.

The two-day dialogue started with a pre-conference dinner, opened and hosted by H.E. María Jesús Alonso, Ambassador of Spain to The Netherlands. The next day policymakers participated in panel discussions exploring ways to enhance Spanish and Dutch cooperation on issues including the future of the multilateral system, strengthening Europe´s value-based foreign policy and balancing Europe´s climate, trade and economic ambitions. Both think tanks were delighted to welcome Stef Blok, Dutch Minister of Foreign Affairs and Marco Aguiriano, State Secretary for EU affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Spain, as keynote speakers.
