Clingendael Academy celebrated the successful completion of the first online edition of a training programme centered around the Law of the Sea. Seventeen diplomats and officials from the ASEAN member states and ASEAN secretariat participated in the intensive three-week programme, organised in cooperation with the Netherlands Institute for the Law of the Sea (NILOS). The training aimed to foster the bilateral relations between the Netherlands and the ASEAN member states and ASEAN secretariat.
This tailor-made programme combined in-depth sessions on key topics such as maritime zones, sustainable development, dispute settlement and fisheries law with interactive and innovative online learning methods. In order to ground the knowledge gained into practice, the participants were able to hone their skills in intercultural communication, scenario building and negotiation.
Participants worked on enhancing these key professional skills and deepened their knowledge on the Law of the Sea, while expanding their networks with ASEAN colleagues and Dutch counterparts. We look back on a successful training in which participants and experts exchanged views and learned from each other’s experience and insights.
