How are you, as a diplomat from Mongolia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, or Uzbekistan, connected to other countries in Central Asia? What is relevant in your foreign relations with Russia, China, and Europe? To respond to these and other questions, junior diplomats from Mongolia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan joined the Clingendael Academy in a tailor-made 4-week diplomatic training course ‘Central Asia and Mongolia Juniors.’

While working together to examine trends in global issues and specific regional matters, the participants delved specifically into topics related to economic diplomacy and sustainability, international security, international humanitarian law, human rights law, multilateral diplomacy, and international organizations. They also enhanced their diplomatic skills in training and workshops, covering negotiation techniques, networking, and communication skills.

We welcomed a variety of experienced practitioners , as well as diplomats from the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs, to engage in frank discussions with each other. Besides underlining the importance of obtaining more knowledge about the trends related to the world of a 21st-century diplomat, participants reported valuing the opportunity of enhancing their skills in a safe learning environment.
