In the framework of the project Surviving2Thriving supported by the Dutch National Postcode Lottery, Clingendael Academy is offering training activities to national and international non-governmental practitioners working in the refugee response in Lebanon.

More than 4,5 million Syrians who left their homes since the beginning of the conflict found refuge in other countries of the region. International donor and aid organisations work hard to relieve the pressure on host countries by addressing basic human needs. The Surviving2Thriving project seeks to support those NGOs through a combination of research and training activities.

Clingendael Academy’s role is two-fold: organising skills training workshops in Lebanon, each of them lasting three days and holding a 10-day training programme in The Hague.

Humanitarian Negotiations Training in Beirut with Terre des Hommes and local partner Nabaa (2 August 2017).

Humanitarian Negotiations Training in Beirut with Terre des Hommes and local partner Nabaa (2 August 2017).

After a successful first negotiation and conflict analysis workshop in Beirut in July-August 2017, Clingendael is welcoming in October 2017 fourteen participants from various international NGOs active in Lebanon. The main objectives of the course can be thus summarised:

  • to share with participants preliminary findings of Clingendael Conflict Research Unit (CRU) research on the political and economic drivers that shape the refugee policies in the country ;
  • to develop participants’ understanding of EU policy-making processes ;
  • to enhance participants’ skills to engage with and influence (EU) policy-makers.

Two more workshops will take place in November 2017 and January 2018. The one in November will be focusing on communication and advocacy.

This programme is financed by the Nederlandse Postcode Loterij and is a follow-up to a training project in 2016 for NGOs in Mali.
