Saudi Arabia's strategic stalemate - what next?

Old Saudi certainties are rapidly fading under the leadership of King Salman and his increasingly powerful son Mohammed bin Salman. The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is currently pursuing a range of economic and social reforms domestically, while it has also replaced its traditional low­-profile foreign policy with a proactive and muscular one.

This policy brief explores the domestic and regional origins of Saudi Arabia’s more assertive foreign policy as well as its costly consequences, and outlines an alternative policy the Saudi government could choose to pursue.
