Clingendael Academy Director Ron Ton and Training Fellow Evelien Borgman recently trained the newly elected non-permanent members of the UN Security Council in negotiation skills.

The countries who will take up their seats in January are Equatorial Guinea, Ivory Coast, Kuwait, the Netherlands, Peru, and Poland ("E6"). Because of the additional workload due to the Security Council membership, all six diplomatic missions have added new Colleagues to their teams in New York. Participants were mostly these expert level diplomats who will be responsible for negotiations and debates on specific issues or regions.

The participants strengthened their negotiation skills, enlarged their professional network, and learned tips and tricks for the membership of the Council.
