Maaike Aans joined Clingendael Academy in January 2018. She organises, coordinates and teaches courses and trainings in the field of diplomatic practice and skills development. Her areas of expertise and interests include intercultural communication, diversity policy, language policy, intercultural mediation and competencies. As an intercultural expert, Maaike teaches people who work in an international environment how to cope with multilingual and cultural diversity issues in different international contexts.
Before starting her work for Clingendael Academy she worked for the Royal Tropical Institute, where she organised intercultural trainings for expats in the Netherlands.
Maaike completed her Master’s degree in intercultural communication, she was awarded with a notification of graduating with honours. She performed research on intercultural differences in social work, commissioned by a Dutch NGO. Her research was granted a nomination for the award ‘Best Academic Master Thesis’. Based on her research, Maaike was asked to speak at different international conferences to talk about her research.
Prior to her Master, she studied at the Faculté d’économie at Université de Montpellier in France. Due to her international interests, she completed a research in Barcelona about opportunities for Dutch entrepreneurs to enter foreign online markets.
