This conference was organised by the Graduate School of East Asian Studies of the Freie Universität Berlin.

The withdrawal of the US from the Paris treaty and increasing influence of China as an economic power are changing the landscape of global climate politics. Against this background, it is of vital importance to explore what kind of role Europe and China can play to “make our planet great again”. The workshop intended to enhance the understanding of global climate politics as well as China's approach to climate change governance in the mitigation and adaptation sectors and its potential role in the world, and to provide some novel ideas for the discourse over the global climate politics.

Sustainability expert Louise van Schaik presented a key note speech entitled 'The EU as a global actor in the climate talks and the link between climate change, migration and security'.
