Eugène van Kemenade joined the Clingendael Institute as a Senior Visiting Fellow in April 2018. Eugène is a negotiation and political dialogue expert with a broad training experience. He has been directly involved in negotiation processes with state and non-state actors in South Sudan, Tunisia, Burundi, Philippines, Myanmar and Thailand. He designed and facilitated high-level dialogue processes between rivalling actors, worked extensively on trust-building and supported multiple integration processes of former rebel groups into national political systems.
Over the years he has trained many commanders of security forces, diplomats, high-level political leaders and leaders of armed groups in Africa, Asia and the Middle East. Until 2004 Eugène worked as a change management expert in the public and private sector was Assistant Professor on change management at the University of Amsterdam. Eugène is associated as Senior Advisor to the Netherlands Institute for Multiparty Democracy NIMD, a member of the United Nations Mediation Roster and he performs regular assignments for the conflict prevention & mediation division of the European Union.
