Training programme for counselors from Iraq
11 Dec 2018 - 16:44
Last week, for the first time, fifteen mid-career diplomats exclusively from Iraq were welcomed at Clingendael Academy to participate in a one-week diplomatic training course.

The course’s main focus was to enhance diplomatic and management skills. While engaging in fruitful discussions, participants acquired knowledge and skills on:
  • 21st-century diplomatic practice,
  • leadership and presentation skills,
  • international negotiation, and
  • strategic planning.

A meeting with their diplomatic counterparts at the Netherlands Ministry of Foreign affairs allowed them to obtain valuable insights into Dutch-Iraqi cooperation and other themes in modern diplomatic practice.

At the closing ceremony, the director and trainers of Clingendael Academy were honoured to welcome the Ambassador of the Republic of Iraq, and other diplomats from the Embassy in The Hague. We were particularly grateful to see so many Clingendael alumni – now working at the Embassy – present at the ceremony.
