Expertise: political and security issues in West and Central Africa, security sector reform, development cooperation in fragile states, conflict and peace processes.

Until 2017 Madina Diallo worked for the Conflict Research Unit (CRU) as project assistant for the security and justice issues in fragile states.

With a degree in International Development Studies (McGill University) and in International Relations (University of Amsterdam), Madina enjoys taking different perspectives in her research. Having a strong focus on West African affairs, Madina wrote her master thesis on the 2012 Malian crisis and the influence of regional security dynamics. She evoked the role of cross-border illegal activities such as drug trade and smuggling but also terrorism in the destabilization of Mali and the Sahel region in general.

Prior to joining Clingendael, Madina held an internship position at the Dialogue Advisory Group where she worked on mediation projects in the Democratic Republic of Congo and Northern Iraq. She previously interned in the Center for Transnational Relations, Foreign and Security Policy of the Otto-Suhr Institute for Political Science (Free University of Berlin).
