During 24 years Marnix Krop served in the Dutch Foreign Service. Notable postings include those in Paris (Deputy Chief of Mission,1998-2002), Warsaw/Minsk (Ambassador, 2006-2009) and Berlin (Ambassador, 2009-2013). From 2002 till 2006 he was the Director General of European Cooperation with the Foreign Ministry in The Hague.

Since his retirement from the Foreign Ministry in October 2013 he has taken up various counselling and supervisory functions. He has also joined the Institute on Germany of the University of Amsterdam in the position of Permanent Visiting Fellow.

He graduated in 1972 from the University of Groningen (Law, Ll.M) and in 1975 from the Johns Hopkins University, School of Advanced International Studies (Bologna, Italy and Washington, DC) with an MA in International Relations/European Studies.

Marnix Krop published some 200 writings - including books, articles, reviews and commentaries - on issues of foreign and security policy, European integration, human rights, development cooperation as well as domestic politics.
