Niger on the eve of elections

On 21 February 2016, Niger will hold its next presidential elections, marking the end of Mahamadou Issoufou’s first term in office.

One of the poorest in the world, the country has recently made the news due to its involvement in the fight against Boko Haram and the controversial domestic measures adopted within that framework.

This short analysis aims to go beyond this fairly documented issue and highlight other destabilizing factors that have developed over the past years, potentially endangering the stability of the country.
