Record of the Subsidiarity Conference "Sharing Power in Europe. Striking the right balance between EU and member state action"

14 Jun 2006 - 12:18
On 17 November the conference 'Sharing power in Europe. Striking the right balance between EU and member state action' was held in The Hague. The conference was co-hosted by the Netherlands Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the UK EU-presidency in collaboration with the Clingendael Institute and the Royal Institute of International Affairs 'Chatham House'.

The conference, which was meant to contribute to the wider debate on the future of the European integration, brought together representatives from governments, parliaments, the EU's institutions, academia, business and civil society from across the member states and candidate countries. The aim of the meeting was to look at how the principle of subsidiarity is currently applied, identify positive and negative aspects of the present practice, and present recommendations as to the improvement of the application of this principle.

Recently the proceedings - including the speeches and a summary of the discussion - of this conference have been published. If you wish to order this publication, please contact the secretariat of the Clingendael European Studies Programme (CESP) by email or tel. +31-(0)70-3245384. Only shipping costs will be charged.
