Set against the backdrop of current tensions between China, Japan South-Korea and other countries, Understanding Public Diplomacy in East Asia analyzes how the region’s “new middle powers" and emerging powers employ public diplomacy as a key element of their foreign policy strategy - and in so doing influence regional power dynamics. This new book , co-edited by Prof. Jan Melissen (Clingendael) and Prof Yul Sohn (Yonsei University, Seoul) brings together contributions from an international and influential group of experts.

It give us a more varied picture of state-to-state relations and an alternative perspective on security in East Asia. The volume highlights the distinct international strategies of East Asian powers and demonstrates that understanding public diplomacy adds significantly to our understanding of challenges in this troubled region.
