Energy transition programme 2024 concluded
Clingendael Academy has successfully concluded a two-week programme – in collaboration with the Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO) – on Energy Transition in Agriculture and Land Use for civil servants and professionals from the Middle East and North Africa (MENA).
Spanning three months, the initiative aimed to promote sustainable energy practices in agriculture and land use, foster interregional exchange, and equip participants with the tools to develop their innovative project plans.
The first training week took place in The Hague in August, followed by the second in Tunis in November. These locations offered participants valuable expertise and opportunities to engage with key stakeholders from both the Netherlands and the MENA region.

A range of experts contributed to the programme, including representatives from the private sector, academia, and government. Participants visited leading organisations such as the German International Cooperation Society (GIZ) and the National Agency for Energy Management (ANME) in Tunis, as well as the World Horti Center in The Hague. They also explored the Food for Thought exhibition at the Scheepvaartmuseum to learn about the Dutch role in innovative agricultural supply chains. Additionally, they engaged with experts from various Dutch Ministries, the Challenge Fund for Youth Employment, Qair Group, Agro Care, and the Dutch Agri- and Horticulture Organisation (LTO).
The programme combined expert content with professional skill development in areas such as project management, effective influencing, negotiation, and intercultural communication. This comprehensive approach provided a strong foundation for participants’ group projects, which they continue to advance post-training as they work towards driving meaningful change in the energy transition within their countries. We look forward to next year’s programme, with a focus on Energy Transition and the Built Environment!
