Jan Rood is senior research fellow at the Clingendael Institute, responsible in particular for research on global and strategic issues, external policies of the EU and Dutch foreign policy. Prior to his current position, he was head of strategic research at the Clingendael Institute (2009-2012), head of the Clingendael European Studies Programme (2005-2009) and head of the Clingendael Research Department (1997-2004). Since February 2012, he has a professorship at Leiden University, where he teaches ‘European integration from a global perspective’.

Moreover, Jan is editor-in-chief of the Clingendael Magazine for International Relations 'Clingendael Spectator', chairman of the Netherlands Society for International Affairs (NGIZ) and chairman of the board of the Turkey Institute. Until 2012, he was a member of the Commission on European Integration of the Advisory Council on International Affairs (AIV).
