Laurens Bistervels is a former Academy Fellow of the Clingendael Institute (March 2019 - November 2020). As a coordinator, he organises diplomatic training programmes for diplomats from the Middle East and North Africa, Southeast Asia, and Small Island Developing States. He also coordinates courses for the WTO and gives trainings on economic diplomacy.
Before joining Clingendael, Laurens worked as an economic policy officer at the Consulate-General of the Netherlands in Shanghai, assisting Dutch businesses in the Yangtze river delta. Before that, he held positions as a policy officer at the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs and as a junior fellow at the United Nations University in Tokyo.
Laurens holds a BA from University College Utrecht and an MA in international relations from Yonsei University in Seoul. He speaks Korean and Mandarin Chinese.
