Laurens Bistervels joined the Clingendael Institute in March 2019 as an Academy Fellow at the Clingendael Institute. As a coordinator, he organises diplomatic training programmes, working with diplomatic training groups from the Middle East and North Africa, among others. He also coordinates courses on economic diplomacy.
Before joining Clingendael, Laurens worked as an economic policy officer at the Consulate-General of the Netherlands in Shanghai, assisting Dutch businesses in the Yangtze river delta. Before that, he held positions as a policy officer at the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs and as a junior fellow at the United Nations University in Tokyo.
Laurens holds a BA from University College Utrecht and an MA in international relations from Yonsei University in Seoul. He speaks Korean and Mandarin Chinese.
