Mirre van Veen works as Academy Fellow at the Clingendael Institute since December 2020. She is an expert and trainer in diplomatic practice, global health and sustainable development. From 2016 to 2020, Mirre worked in various positions at Amref Flying Doctors (internationally known as Amref Health Africa), an international health NGO. She coordinated the Health Systems Advocacy Partnership, strengthening African civil society organisations in their capacities to influence health policies at local, national and global level. As advocacy officer, Mirre was responsible for involving Amref’s country teams in global health diplomacy through training and support in advocacy, policy research and strategy development.

Mirre graduated with distinction in Global Health from the VU University in Amsterdam. During her studies she did a research internship in Lao PDR where she evaluated the implementation of its national Mother and Child Health policy. Mirre also holds an interdisciplinary bachelor’s degree in Natural and Social Sciences (in Dutch ‘Beta-Gamma’) with a specialization in Cultural Anthropology, and a second bachelor’s degree in Religious Studies, both from the University of Amsterdam.
