Expertise: Diplomacy and International Theory.
Paul Sharp is Senior Visiting Fellow at the Clingendael Institute. He is also Professor of Political Science at the University of Minnesota Duluth (US). He is currently working on research projects on US diplomacy and the idea of appeasement. His future research in association with Clingendael will focus on evolving norms of integrative diplomatic practice.
Paul is a prolific author and experienced editor. Two of his co-edited books are The Diplomatic Corps as an Institution of International Society published by Palgrave in 2007 and American Diplomacy (with Geoffrey Wiseman) published by Brill in 2012. Paul completed a single authored study, Diplomatic Theory of International Relations published by Cambridge University Press in 2009. He is co-editor of The Hague Journal of Diplomacy and has worked on the editorial boards of a number of journals on Diplomacy and International Studies.
Paul holds a PhD in Political Studies from Queen's University, Canada, awarded in 1985. He graduated from Lancaster University (UK) with a Master’s degree in Politics in 1979.
