Until December 2017 Quinta Smit was a Research and Training Fellow at Clingendael Academy. She joined Clingendael in March 2017 and developed training programmes on Humanitarian Negotiations for humanitarian staff at both field level as well as headquarter level.
Prior to joining Clingendael Academy, she worked as a delegate for the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in Lebanon and Syria where she helped set up new protection programmes and carried out additional ICRC protection activities.
Upon return to the Netherlands, she applied her skills and knowledge to a more local cause and worked as an Arabic speaking trainer for Vluchtelingenwerk Noord-Nederland.
Quinta also conducted research in Afghanistan (2010) and Egypt (2012-2014). Her work on Salafi political participation in Egypt was published by Vienna University.
Quinta holds an MA in Arabic language and International Relations from Edinburgh University and a BA in Liberal Arts and Sciences from University College Maastricht.
