Rick van der Kleij was Training and Research Fellow at Clingendael until April 2017. As such he coordinated several diplomatic training programmes and international skills trainings abroad, as well as training programmes for the facility Negotiation Training as a Conflict Resolution Instrument. Furthermore, he is an experienced trainer in debating and argumentation skills. With Wilbur Perlot he also coordinated Processes of International Negotiation (PIN), Clingendael’s international research network on international negotiations.
Before joining Clingendael, Rick had been working as an independent moderator of interactive meetings such as stakeholder dialogues and public debates since 2008, for audiences ranging from Zürich to Riyadh. In 2013, the Dutch meeting industry awarded Rick as the 'Most Talented Moderator’ of the Netherlands.
After having studied International Business at the University of Groningen and l'Université de Lausanne, Rick has earned a master's degree in Applied Ethics from Utrecht University, focusing on international ethics and the foundations of human rights. He has also worked on food security and sustainable entrepreneurship as a policy intern to the Sustainable Economic Development department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
