Ruud van der Velden is Training and Research Fellow at the Netherlands Institute of International Relations ‘Clingendael’. He joined Clingendael in February 2018 and develops training programmes for diplomats and other international relations professionals, with a focus on digital diplomacy, cyber security and blended learning methods.
Prior to working at the Clingendael Institute, from 2014 onwards, Ruud worked as a project leader for the Netherlands Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He developed a training curriculum on the modernisation and digitalisation of the diplomatic service and provided training sessions for Netherlands embassies worldwide.
Ruud holds a Master’s degree in Conflict Studies and Human Rights from and a Bachelor’s degree in History from the Utrecht University. During his studies he fulfilled an internship on Politics, Culture and Media at the Netherlands embassy in Pretoria, South Africa. He wrote his Master thesis on Security Sector Reform and informal power in post-conflict Liberia.
