Associates are experts in their own field and contractually affiliated with Clingendael.
Although associates are not employees of the Clingendael Institute, they comply with all policies that Clingendael staff do.

Dr Sarah Wolff is Senior Research Associate Fellow at the Clingendael Institute, Lecturer and Director of the Centre for European Research at Queen Mary University London. Her research interests include EU politics and policy-making, non-majoritarian agencies, Justice and Home Affairs policy (migration and border management policies), as well as EU external relations and EU development aid.
Her research focuses on JHA cooperation between EU and its Mediterranean neighbours. Her book The Mediterranean Dimension of the European Union’s Internal Security (Palgrave, 2012) builds upon extensive fieldwork in Europe, Morocco, Egypt and Jordan. The LISBOAN Research Award 2012 was awarded to her book Freedom, Security and Justice after Lisbon and Stockholm (Asser, 2012; co-editors F. Goudappel and de Zwaan). Her current research focuses on the study of EU’s engagement with political parties in North Africa.
Dr. Wolff was a fellow of the European Foreign and Security Policy Studies Program. She held visiting fellowships in Barcelona, Cairo and Amman. She is co-editor of the peer-reviewed journal Mediterreanean Politics.
Dr. Wolff holds a PhD in IR (LSE, 2009), an Msc in European Politics and Governance (LSE, 2004) and a BA in Public Administration (Science Po Grenoble, 1999). In the past she also worked at the European Commission and the European Parliament.
