Sense Hofstede is a scholar of international relations and nationalism with a focus on East Asia. He is a specialist in the politics and foreign policy of China, Singapore, and Taiwan. He focuses on contemporary developments in the Indo-Pacific, with a particular interest in China-Taiwan relations, foreign interference, and interdependence.

Previously, Sense has pursued a PhD in Comparative Asian Studies at the National University of Singapore comparing the influence of China on Singapore and Taiwan. Before that, he read a double master in International Relations at Sciences Po Paris and Peking University and a bachelor of arts in International Relations and International Organisation at the University of Groningen.
