Until January 2018 Yuri van Loon was a Research Fellow at the Clingendael Institute. His research focused on economic and financial affairs, particularly on EU economic and fiscal policy coordination and the EU budget.
Yuri lectures at Leiden University in the Public Administration programme, where he teaches courses related to (EU) decision-making and research methodology.
Yuri holds a BA in European Studies from Maastricht University and subsequently pursued a MSc in International and European Governance at Leiden University and a MA European Political and Administrative Studies at the College of Europe. During his studies Yuri specialized in European economic governance and wrote his Master theses about the Stability and Growth Pact and the European Semester respectively.
Prior to joining Clingendael, Yuri worked as an intern at the Europe department of the Netherlands’ ministry of Foreign Affairs in the Hague.
