About the authors


Erwin van Veen is an experienced professional who delivers high quality and insightful strategic advice to mitigate violent conflict to ministries of foreign affairs and international organisations alike. He achieves this through a mix of research, facilitation and policy action. His research focuses on relations between political order and security.

Feike Fliervoet is a visiting research fellow at Clingendael’s Conflict Research Unit where she contributes to the Levant research programme, a four-year long project that examines the influence of coercive organisations on state development. She is also a PhD candidate at the European University Institute in Florence, where she studies the causes of cohesion and fragmentation in secessionist movements.
