Introduction

The Clingendael Institute, the German Institute fuer Auslandsbeziehungen and the Charhar Institute, China's leading non-governmental public diplomacy think tank, will convene the Public Diplomacy Forum 2015: 4th International Conference on Public Diplomacy in China-Europe Relations.

This year’s focus is on the debate surrounding the provision of global public goods. This network meeting is by invitation only, but the gathering will open with the public session: (Mis)Understanding Climate: China, India and the EU. It is possible to register here.

The main sponsor of the conference is the Robert Bosch Foundation. It will be held at the Bosch premises in Berlin. This conference is a successor of previous meetings in The Hague (2013) and Shanghai (2014). The expert meeting brings together a varied group of experts from Asia, Europe and the US.

Among the Asian participants in the programme are experts from China, India, Japan and South Korea. Ingrid d’Hooghe and Jan Melissen, who have been involved in this project from its conception in Beijing in 2012, will participate on behalf of the Clingendael Institute. The conference coincides with the launch of Understanding Public Diplomacy in East Asia, a book co-edited by Jan Melissen and Yul Sohn and published by Palgrave Macmillan.
