Introduction

This event is part of the Breakfast of Europe series and was organised by the Clingendael Institute and the European Commission. The full photostream of this event can be viewed here.

With European Parliament elections approaching,  Britain leaving the EU, and competing visions about the future of the EU clashing, 2019 promises to be crucial. The EU’s agenda is full, whether it concerns migration, the multi-annual financial framework or the future of the Economic and Monetary Union. What priorities should the new Commission have? How to respond to the rise of illiberal politics inside the Union? And who will be up and who will be down in 2019?
