Introduction

From 9 - 11 October 2016 the Shanghai Institute for International Studies (SIIS) and the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung(FES) co-held the 13th Symposium on “Sino-EU Relations and the Taiwan Question”. Representatives from government departments, international think tanks and academic organizations attended the conference and shared their opinions.

SIIS Vice President Yan Anlin, Ms. Gudrun Wacker, Senior Associate of German Institute for International and Security Affairs and Mr. Stefan Pantekoek, Resident Director of FES Shanghai, gave opening remarks. Mr. Dun Shixin, Director-General of the Department of Hong Kong, Macao and Overseas Affairs Related to Taiwan at the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council participated in the conference.

The Clingendael Institute was represented by Senior Research Fellow Maaike Okano-Heijmans, who was one of the guest speakers.
