The Corona outbreak has prompted enormous public health challenges, as well as a severe undermining of progress in development. Several global players are at the forefront of the response. In this webinar we will discuss their current focus, views on cooperation with local partners on the ground, the asks of host countries, lessons to be learned for possible next waves of the virus and how societies could become more resilient.

The following speakers will share their thoughts with us:

Monique Vledder is the Practice Manager for the Global Financing Facility of the World Bank. This organization assists countries to significantly increase investment in the health of their own people. With its focus at women, children and adolescents its COVID-19 response seeks to enhance comprehensive community and primary health care services and strengthen their health financing systems.

Anshu Banerjee is Director for Maternal Newborn Child and Adolescent Health and Ageing at the World Health Organization. The WHO set norms for international health issues and provides information and advice. Through the International Health Regulations it is in the lead to monitor the COVID-19 pandemic. It is active on the ground and advises public authorities and health workers how to act and operate to curb the pandemic.

Dan Peters is Senior Program Officer for Development Policy and Finance at The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. The foundation is currently one of the largest funders in the domain of global health. When the COVID-19 outbreak spread, it rapidly responded by freeing up more funding and capacity to address the global challenge with a focus on financing accelerated development of diagnostics, vaccines, and therapeutics , as well as providing direct assistance on the ground

The webinar will be moderated by Louise van Schaik, Head of Unit EU & Global Affairs at the Clingendael Institute.

This webinar is part of the Clingendael Global Health Initiative that aims to stimulate policy-relevant discussions among global health experts from NGOs, the private sector, government agencies/ministries and academia.
