The Clingendael Academy and China celebrate 11 years of cooperation in diplomatic training.
Starting in 2004, the cooperation in diplomatic training between the Netherlands and China became a well appreciated element in our bilateral relations. Over the past 11 years, one week intensive training programmes for Chinese diplomats were offered anually by the Clingendael Academy in The Hague. Every year, a new topic of concern to the current debate in foreign policies was selected, for example global justice and diplomacy (2012), nuclear security (2013) and the rise of Africa (2014). From their side, the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs organises yearly programmes for European diplomats in Beijing, including diplomats from the Netherlands.
In the week of the 24th of November, Mr. Ron Ton, Director of the Clingendael Academy, visited Beijing to provide training, capacity building and consultations with the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs,
the in-house training department and the Chinese Foreign Affairs University (CFAU). The CFAU is closely related to the Chinese MFA.
At the MFA, meetings were held with the European and HR department to continue the cooperation in diplomatic training.

At the CFAU, Mr. Ron Ton delivered a workshop in capacity building to the professors and academic staff of the CFAU and a seminar in international negotiations skills for students at their new campus. On top of that, a meeting with Clingendael Academy alumni was organised.
The Academy is looking forward to welcome a new group of Chinese diplomats in 2015.
