In September 2025, Clingendael Academy welcomed twelve young diplomats from Armenia, Azerbaijan, and Georgia for a two-week diplomatic training programme in The Hague. Since 2013, diplomats from these countries have participated annually in Clingendael’s specialized courses, fostering regional cooperation and professional development.

This year’s programme centered on two themes: Diplomacy in the 21st Century and Essentials of EU Decision-Making. Participants explored the changing global order, with its complexities, challenges, and opportunities, while deepening their understanding of the international legal framework, the workings of the European Union, and emerging trends in economic and cyber diplomacy.

Beyond gaining new insights, the training programme was tailored to achieve personal growth. Through interactive sessions and sharing experiences between the course participants, the diplomats gained essential diplomatic skills and engaged in meaningful exchange of perspectives. Their enthusiasm, professionalism, and eagerness to develop created a dynamic learning environment, both in the classroom and beyond.

The programme also featured working visits to key EU institutions, including the European Commission, the European External Action Service, and the European Parliament. These visits offered a unique opportunity to witness diplomacy in action and connect recently gained insights with real-world practice.

Clingendael Academy looks back on a rewarding two weeks. It was our pleasure to host this group of talented and engaged diplomats and to contribute to their journey toward impactful international careers. We trust the knowledge and connections gained will serve them well in the years to come.
