Clingendael launches first negotiation training in Fiji
Clingendael Academy successfully conducted its first negotiation and mediation training in Fiji, partnering with the UNDP Pacific office as part of the United Nations Peacebuilding Project (PBF). The intensive 3-day programme brought together government officials, police officers, military personnel, and civil society leaders to strengthen their skills in conflict resolution and mediation.
During the training, participants engaged in practical exercises, explored negotiation strategies, and learned the importance of cross-sectoral collaboration to achieve sustainable peace. The presence and support of senior Fijian government officials, including Hon. Sashi Kiran and Hon. Sakiusa Tubuna, highlighted the importance of these efforts in building local capacity for peacebuilding.
This initiative reflects the continued commitment of the Clingendael Peace Negotiations Programme to extend its expertise to UNDPs programmes around the world, enhance local peacebuilding efforts, and contribute to long-term stability in the Pacific. The success of this training sets a foundation for future collaborations and highlights the growing relevance of negotiation and mediation skills in addressing regional challenges.
