The Global Go To Think Tank Index 2019 (University of Pennsylvania) has been released. Worldwide, more than 8,200 think tanks, the Clingendael Institute takes a strong 25th position. Moreover, for the third year in a row, Clingendael is ranked in the top-ten think tanks in Western Europe. On a national level Clingendael is by far the highest ranking Dutch think tank, as it was in previous years.

In the worldwide categories 'Foreign Policy and International Affairs' Clingendael is taking the 17th position, in the category 'Defence and National Security' we are ranked number 44.

We warmly congratulate our partners Brookings Institution and Bruegel with their number one ranking in the respective categories Think Tanks Worldwide and Think Tanks Non-US.

About the Index

The worldwide acknowledged Index is published yearly by the Think Tanks and Civil Societies Program of the University of Pennsylvania. It is based on peer review and expert opinions. It collects its data through the reviews of over 8,000 think tanks and a large number of experts' think tanks, involved in politics, journalism, country and regional expertise as well as donors/commissioning parties of think tanks. Europe has over 2,200 think tanks.
