The Hague 12 March 2015 - During the first half of 2016 the Netherlands will hold the Presidency of the European Union for the twelfth time. After 1998 and 2004, the Netherlands Institute for International Relations ‘Clingendael’ has been given the honourable assignment to train policymakers of all Dutch ministries in preparation for the Dutch European Union Presidency in 2016 for the third time.

What are the aims of the Netherlands during their 2016 Presidency? How can Dutch policymakers find their way in the complex playing field of interests within the EU? How can one be successful during negotiations with 27 other member states during the Council meetings and trialogues? In short, how can we ensure an effective and successful Dutch Presidency?
