Last March Clingendael organised an economic diplomacy training for the first batch of commercial and economic attaches from the Palestinian Territories. This practical tailor-made training aimed to provide them with all the necessary knowledge, insights and skills to work effectively at Palestinian missions around the globe.

The group had diverse backgrounds with some being from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and others seconded from the ministry of Economic Affairs or Chamber of Commerce. This allowed for a fruitful exchange of insights on inter-ministerial coordination and the role, activities and responsibilities of the Palestinian commercial attaché posted abroad.

The different skills workshops further honed the participants’ skills in attracting FDI, country branding and organising outgoing trade missions. While broadcasting live from the Clingendael studios in The Hague, trainers and participants also explored the vital role digital tools can play in trade promotion. After this intensive course this first group of commercial attaches is more than ready to go to work.
