Last week, staff of the Clingendael Institute briefed a delegation of fifteen Saudi Arabian diplomats during a training course organised by Hotzone Solutions, at the request of their National Authority to the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW). The one-week training course aimed to brief the high-ranking delegation on chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear (CBRN) materials and treaties.

At the Clingendael Institute, the Saudi Arabian delegation was welcomed and briefed on the history of the Clingendael Institute and its organisation. After that, the diplomats received a half-day lecture delivered by Clingendael Research Fellow Mr Sico van der Meer. He discussed the political context and international efforts on non-proliferation and disarmament issues. Are the Non-Proliferation Treaty and International Atomic Energy Agency still effective, and how? These key questions triggered a lively and interactive exchange of views.
