During the past month, a group of 15 professionals participated in the Training Course on International Security. The 8-day programme, divided over 4 weeks, focused on current events such as unrest in the Middle East and Libya, the situation in Mali, in Ukraine, and trends like terrorism and non-conventional armed violence.

A diverse group

This training is one of Clingendael Academy’s open registration courses that is organised twice a year and in which anyone can participate. Because of this open character these groups are always highly diverse, bringing a wealth of experience and resulting in fascinating discussions.

This time, the group consisted of policy officers, project managers, team leaders, a translator and a teacher, representing inter alia the Ministry of Defence, Ministry of Finance, NGOs, and the Dutch National Police.

Multilateral negotiations

The professionals experienced the complexities of a multilateral negotiation and gained insights in their negotiating styles.

Clingendael Academy also offers open registration courses in which negotiation skills are the main focus: the 4-day interactive Seminar International Negotiations and the 2-day Course Negotiation Behaviour.
