On Wednesday 4 June, Clingendael welcomed a delegation from the Indonesian ‘Lemhannas’ Institute - a public policy and training institute that has the mission to train Indonesia’s top-level governmental officials.

The three-day study trip of this Indonesian delegation included a visit to the Clingendael Institute as well as to selected Dutch universities. It covered issues from institutional management, the role of think tanks, and setting strategic research agendas, to the development of training curricula on diplomacy and international security, including skills training, quality control and evaluations.

Experts from Clingendael’s Research department and the Clingendael Academy were joined by management and supporting staff, in order to give a comprehensive perspective into how Clingendael strives for excellence.

Experts consulted included, in order:

Mr. Nils de Mooij (diplomatic training and capacity building)

Prof Dr. Jan Melissen (strategic research & role of think tanks)

Mr. Tim Masselink (intercultural communications and international negotiations training),

Mrs. Claudia ten Have (office management)

Mr. Jos Kösters (institutional management)

Mr. Bart Hogeveen (security training) and

Dr. Bibi van Ginkel (international law and security research).

Sharing best practices and exchanging perspectives with partner institutes can take many forms – from a one-day visit to extensive to multi-year capacity building programmes. For more information on the activities, please see our webpage on Capacity Building.
